Farming played an important role in the lives of early
residents. Agricultural artifacts are displayed inside our
reconstructed barn.
Potatoes were an
important crop in Otsego County. Elmira was known as the Certified
Seed Potato Capital of Michigan.
"Barns of Otsego County"
includes samples of the 350 historic barns inventoried in 2004.
The exhibit also includes a barn beam with a drill used to bore the
holes for wooden pegs. Centennial farms - those owned by the same
family for 100 years or more - are listed in celebration of our rich
agricultural heritage,
