Resolution in Support from Otsego County Commissioners

RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF

MICHIGAN CERTIFIED ELDER FRIENDLY COMMUNITY

Otsego County Resolution October-2005

Whereas, the number of Otsego County residents age 65 and over is projected to increase from 4,136 in 2000 to 9,420 in the year 2020; and

Whereas, the percent of Otsego County residents age 65 and over is expected to be 27% of the county’s total population in the year 2020; and

Whereas, the majority of the senior citizens will be vital, independent residents who can provide an experienced pool of talented and committed volunteers; and

Whereas, senior citizens and retirees help build a strong and stable local economy by creating jobs and income; and

Whereas, the State Advisory Council on Aging created the Michigan Certified Elder Friendly Community concept and authorized MSU Extension and the Office of Services to the Aging to create an assessment and certification process; and

Whereas, Otsego County has been selected as a pilot site for the state for implementing the Michigan Certified Elder Friendly Community process; now, therefore, be it

Resolved that the Otsego County Board of Commissioners endorses the establishment of the Otsego County Elder Friendly Community Leadership Team whose purpose will be to assess, identify action steps, and promote Otsego County as an Elder Friendly Community; and, be it further

Resolved that MSU Extension and the Otsego County Commission on Aging be commended for initiating and overseeing this pilot project; and, be it further

Resolved that Ken Glasser, a member of the Otsego County Board of Commissioners, be appointed by the Board Chair to serve on the Elder Friendly Community Leadership Team.
