On May 5, 2015 a special election will be held for the following proposal:
A proposal to amend the State Constitution to increase the sales/use tax from 6% to 7% to replace and supplement reduced revenue to the School Aid Fund and local units of government caused by the elimination of the sales/use tax on gasoline and diesel fuel for vehicles operating on public roads, and to give effect to laws that provide additional money for roads and other transportation purposes by increasing the gas tax and vehicle registration fees.
Voters registered in Hayes Township can request an absentee ballot or vote in person at the Town Hall, located at 71 Hayes Tower Road. The Polls open at 7 am and close at 8 pm.

Any Gaylord school board elections will be held at the Hayes Township Hall with the same hours as the primary and general elections—7 am to 8 pm.

To request an absentee ballot, call 732-9576 or send a written request to Hayes Township Clerk, 6724 Hayes Tower Road, Gaylord, MI 49735, or email your request to rbross@freeway.net. Be sure to tell Mr. Ross the mailing address where you want the application sent.

Upon receipt of your application, a ballot will be mailed to you. The absentee ballots must be in the Township Clerk’s possession no later than 8 pm on election day. Applications and ballots may be placed in the voter drop box located at the Town Hall. No postage is required when using the drop box.

Hayes Township uses the Accuvote Ballot Scanner. When the voter has finished voting the ballot, the ballot is inserted in a secrecy sleeve and then fed into the scanner. If the ballot is spoiled by over voting, the scanner returns the ballot to the voter for immediate correction.
