Our Director

Cheryl Wagner, our director, hails from Ohio and grew up in Farmington, Mi. Heavily influenced by a musical family, she received her Bachelor of Music Education at Northern Michigan University. Cheryl taught music in Negaunee, Michigan for seven years. She also served as the director of the Negaunee Male Chorus, Director of the Lake Superior Chapter of the Sweet Adelines International and sang with the Marquette Choral Society and church choir.
Her husband’s career with the army band took Cheryl to Atlanta, Georgia; Heidelberg, Germany; and back to Georgia. She taught music in the schools and directed church choirs in Georgia. Her experience included being the director of music at the Protestant Chapel in Heidelberg West Germany. She was honored as “Teacher of the Year” for Douglas County, Georgia for 1994-1995.

Cheryl and her husband, Rich, returned to Michigan and settled in Gaylord in 2000. She began directing the Michigan Northern Lights Chapter of the Sweet Adelines International in 2001. Her musical credits in Gaylord include being the music director, choir director and organist/keyboardist for Trinity Lutheran Church of Gaylord. Cheryl teaches full time for the Gaylord Community Schools.

Her legacy lies in founding another musical family! Son, Richard is currently a Junior at Belmont University, Nashville, TN. . He is majoring in entertainment industry studies. Daughter, Allison is a sophomore at Central Michigan University and is majoring in music education. Her youngest son, James, is an active Junior in high school. Cheryl’s husband Rich is a project engineer with Integrity Construction Services of Gaylord. He continues his musical pursuits playing his trumpet with various local bands.
